Parent Handbook

2020 Camp Gan Israel

We are excited that you have registered to join us for a fantastic Gan Israel, Mini-Gan Izzy, and Pioneer summer camp experience. This Handbook is designed to help parents navigate the Camp Gan Israel experience as well as provide you with pertinent information important for all campers and parents.

How to arrange picking up my camper during the camp day?

If you have to pick up your camper during the day, please notify our office. Once we are aware of your arrival time, we can arrange to have your camper ready for you. Please note that no camper will be released to ANYONE without written permission.

Visiting my camper?

Camp Gan Israel is open for parental visits every camp day. We suggest that you schedule your visit carefully as your camper may be involved in a field trip or other off-campus activity. All visitors will be directed to the director for visitor registration and assistance. We invite all parents to join us Fridays for special activities and challah baking.

Dress Code

The wearing of a CGI T-shirt is mandatory on trip days (Tuesdays and Thursdays) and will be available for purchase prior to the start of camp. We suggest purchasing 2-3 shirts (Your child will receive one free T-shirt). T-shirts are mandatory to wear on trip days for identification. Additional shirts cost $12.00 each.

Personal Property

Please label all clothing, towels, sunblock, and other personal items. We cannot be responsible for non-labeled lost items. Personal sports equipment such as baseball bats, hockey sticks, sports balls, etc. will be stored by the counselor and used under staff supervision. Bring a sweater, sweatshirt, or winter jacket every day. Even if the weather is nice, we will be traveling to different areas around the bay that may be cooler.

Please have your child bring a bathing suit, towel and plastic bag for wet suit, every Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Swimming takes place at the UC Strawberry Canyon Pool, under the direction of Spencer Hawkins.

Campers should also bring a bathing suit, towel, and plastic bag for wet suit every Tuesday and Thursday as well, since after our trips to local points of interest, we frequently go to parks with splash pads and water play.

Outdoor Gear

Please pack a sweater or sweatshirt every day (except during a heat wave). Please apply sunblock prior to camp and send extra sunblock to re-apply at swimming. To save changing time, it is advisable to have your child wear a swimsuit under their clothing, packing underwear for after the swim.

What if my child does not want to participate in a particular activity?

No camper will be forced to participate in any activity. However, we do urge campers to try all activities and take advantage of the complete program offered at Camp Gan Israel.

Please bring a Kosher non-meat lunch and one LARGE morning snack every day. Include a drink. It is advisable to pack lunches in a disposable bag rather than a lunch-box that can be easily lost. Afternoon snack will be provided. Water fountains are placed all over the campsite.

The camp provides an afternoon snack every day, consisting of fruit or veggies, crackers, chips, popcorn, or home made juice otter pops.

Your child's counselor will be available for administering medications. All medication to be administered during camp hours must be clearly marked with camper's name. A separate note containing dosage instruction and parent signature must be sent as well.

Camper Release

Parents wishing to have their child released during camp to anyone other than themselves or their designated substitute must make prior arrangements with the camp Director.
